I’ve just spent the weekend travelling half way across the UK taking both my daughters to their sports tournaments – and the parallels between success in sport and winning with niche sites hit me almost as much as the cold did after 8 hours stood in the rain – yes it’s colder ‘Up North’!
You see, my eldest daughter (aged 11) is now aiming to play at an ‘elite’ level and her team’s training now doesn’t just revolve around the physical aspects of their game, but around the phycological parts too.
Resilience, expecting and learning from failure (and being okay with it), physical and mental preparation – all of these are key aspects to their training so they are prepared to face the best teams in the country and be able to perform at their best.
And the exact same applies to niche sites. Especially for those of us (like me) who work alone on our sites.
April is about to be my biggest earning month ever! So I’ve been reflecting these last few weeks on what has really made the difference.
Here’s what I have come up with…
MINDSET is a game changer!
Okay, so that’s nothing new. We know mindset is important. But what I have increasingly realised over the last year or so is that mindset is THE number one factor that can take you from average earnings to incredible earnings.
I will go one step further and say…
If you are still employed then you probably don’t have ‘mindset’ cracked just yet.
And that’s okay.
I still haven’t got it fully cracked but I’m working on it – and I’ve come a hell of a long way since my days of being a teacher earning £45k a year.
Here’s a little test…
If you think the following statement is ridiculous, fantasy or simply not achievable then your mindset is not there yet…
‘It is possible to earn £100k+ per month from niche sites without a huge team around you’
It is achievable. And the difference between making £5k per month and £25k per month is not as big as you’d think – although if you’re not yet at £5k per month you might think £25k is silly talk.
It’s not.
But you have to start thinking like an elite level athlete or business person to have mindset work you rather than against you.
You have to understand that sometimes it is the smallest things you might overlook that make the little difference that leads to the largest gains.
You have to be prepared to fail, and fail again and again – but learn from those experiences and apply them to the next project.
You need to have the bravery to say out loud to your partner or friends that you are aiming for £10k, £20k, £50k, £100k per month – and at least half believe it – in fact, you need to fully believe it!
It’s not easy. I’ve said before that many of us have some deep rooted psychological reasons for why we believe it’s not possible.
I made the same mistake at the turn of 2023. Having hit my 2022 target of a £20k month and having achieved a £30k month – I then set myself a target of a £35k month for 2023.
I’m going to hit that this month. Now that’s not a massive achievement is it really.
Okay yeah, I was playing it safe and I can tell my wife – ‘I’ve hit my target and it’s only April’ – But I didn’t have to work that hard for it. And mindset wise, was there really any shift?
No.
So, my revised target for 2023 is to get a £50k month. That’s $62k USD!!!
If I do hit it – I’ll likely then be aiming for the £100k+ month. And to be honest, in the back of my mind I’m already aiming for the bigger target.
Whether I hit those numbers or not – the point is that by simply believing it is possible and having those genuine aspirations I will start to take actions that lead to results that help achieve those goals.
There are a few resources, habits and mantras that have helped me along the way with improving mindset:
- 10X Rule – Grant Cardone
- High Performance Podcast – YouTube
- Surrounding myself by people who are already at the levels I want to be at (either online or offline)
- Being vocal about my goals
- Suspending any disbeliefs about potential earnings
I hope this helps and I truly think this is one of the biggest game changers in my journey so far.
